Eagles Rookie Compares Himself to Three-Time All-Pro Super Bowl Winner

After picking Quinyon Mitchell in the first round, the Philadelphia Eagles traded up in the second round to select Cooper DeJean, an Iowa cornerback who was considered by many to be the league’s top prospect at the position. The team was determined to take Cooper DeJean with them when the NFL draft arrived in 2024.

In a crowded cornerback class, DeJean was highly sought after due to his versatility in playing on the outside, in the slot, and even at safety. He also had experience returning kicks and plays on special teams.

The Eagles’ selection of DeJean, who went undefeated to No. 40 overall, was highly praised.

DeJean was even likened by Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice to three-time All-Pro and Super Bowl winner cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

On April 29, Tice noted, “DeJean is one of the hardest players to find a comp for.” Although Ramsey was more of a can’t-miss talent, his safety instincts and adaptability helped him rank among the top five backs in 2016. DeJean is slightly smaller and less athletic than him. Out of Florida State, Ramsey weighed 209 pounds and stood 6 feet 1 inch.

“DeJean weighed 203 pounds and was 6 feet, half an inch tall. DeJean ran a 4.44, while Ramsey ran a 4.41. Ramsey’s length is where the comparison loses a little traction. He controls opposition receivers with his arms, which measure almost 33.5 inches. Although DeJean’s arms are two inches shorter, they are both physically strong and have a tendency to force turnovers.

DeJean’s ability to force turnovers will undoubtedly be valued by the Eagles, as he only committed 18 in 2023—the seventh-fewest in the league.
